NewsApp
Research & publishing
NewsApp Windmill captures sources, researches their ideas and prepares briefs with local AI. Windmill owns the scripts, flows, execution history and recovery; Jev / TypeSafe System One supplies typed classification.
Building · verified static export
Give every source a durable starting point.
Capture starts a Windmill flow for a library-scoped article. Download and transcription steps retain the original source and source text. Re-running a flow skips completed checkpoints rather than negotiating a custom worker lease.
A retained source and completed checkpoints make recovery inspectable.
- Input
- A URL or uploaded source, assigned to a library
- Output
- Source text, provenance and a Windmill run
- Mechanism
- articles → f/pipeline/process-item → source artifacts
- Technology
- Windmill flow · yt-dlp · faster-whisper
Give generation and judgment different jobs.
Local Qwen extracts named concepts and generates researched summaries. Jev / TypeSafe System One asks primary-group and format Choices plus a practical-depth Score over the same article title, excerpt and body. A second, conditional Choice selects a secondary group; returned probability vectors are retained.
A bounded question makes a model result inspectable. Confidence is not measured accuracy.
- Input
- Source text and concepts worth investigating
- Output
- Researched concepts, typed judgments and a structured brief
- Mechanism
- extract.ts → typesafe.ts → articles.live_state.classification

Make research accumulate through recorded connections.
The research_library database holds eight content tables. Embeddings and shared research terms connect articles. Graph rebuilding keeps up to ten article edges, weighting cosine similarity by 0.6 and shared terms by 0.4, capped at five terms, with a 0.25 floor for shared-term pairs. Jev performs classification; it does not supply this ranking formula.
Connections have a recorded basis that can be rebuilt and inspected.
- Input
- Researched concepts, source references and embeddings
- Output
- Searchable content and derived graph relationships
- Mechanism
- articles + terms → f/graph/rebuild → live_state.graph
- Technology
- PostgreSQL · pgvector / pgvectorscale · ONNX embeddings
Give editorial intent its own workflow.
Studio remains the separate editorial ambition: choose an angle, select evidence, develop an argument and retain author judgment. Earlier authoring machinery is historical evidence, not proof that the complete Windmill editorial experience is delivered. The website pulls research briefs only.
Machine-prepared research and original editorial work remain distinct.
- Input
- An editorial question, selected research and annotations
- Output
- An intended authored argument, with editorial decisions retained
- Mechanism
- Selected evidence → authored draft → editorial decision

Pull a complete, verified public snapshot.
The website reads only unarchived news records at the published stage in a read-only transaction. It projects an explicit content allowlist, validates publication artifacts against source identity, copies permitted media and hashes one JSON file per article. Only a complete candidate can replace the last good snapshot. No public Windmill article feed is assumed.
Readers can keep reading if the research machine is offline. An incomplete export cannot replace the last good release.
- Input
- Eligible research briefs and local media
- Output
- A verified consumer snapshot with articles, media and a compact manifest
- Mechanism
- npm run news:pull → content/news/snapshots/<digest> → current.json
- Technology
- Read-only SSH pull · per-article JSON · SHA-256
Make the research independently readable.
The website builds from its saved Windmill snapshot without reaching the private machine. The current collection uses Windmill records; historical release routes remain available for evidence and saved Lab links. Supplied summaries and takeaways remain summaries and takeaways when no full body exists.
The public site can explain the work without access to the private library, prompts or operator services.
- Input
- A verified Windmill snapshot and preserved historical release
- Output
- Readable briefs, source links and paths into applied work
- Mechanism
- /briefs/ + /news/articles/<stable-identity>/
- Technology
- Static HTML / JSON · Vite · Three.js
